ABOUT

Flow State

/flō stāt/ (n.) “The mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement and enjoyment in the process of the activity.” A person often loses track of time when experiencing a state of flow.

The Studio

Established in 2019 by artist Devin Mullane, Flow State Art Studio was originally created as a space to create both perceptible and abstract artwork.

A laser cutting machine is used to cut and engrave materials like wood and paper to create artwork with exact precision and various acrylic paint pouring techniques are used to produce stunning original paintings by simply going with the flow.

The Studio (based in Columbus, Ohio) prides itself on artistry and craftsmanship and is focused on producing visually appealing artwork using high quality, archival materials designed to last.

Artwork produced by The Studio is made available for purchase in limited editions, numbered and signed by the artist including Giclée (digital) prints of original paintings.

Note, the frames encasing artwork sold by The Studio are custom made and finished by the artist as well.

The Artist

Thank you for visiting Flow State Art Studio! I’m Devin and it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Inspiration for my art

Growing up in a small town called Oscoda in northeast Michigan, I spent a lot of time outdoors swimming in lakes, canoeing in rivers and exploring the woods.

Nature’s left a lasting impression on me, and elements of the natural world we live in (like Earth and water) can be seen in the color combinations used in the fluid paintings I produce.

Natural elements also serve as inspiration for the laser-cut/engraved artwork I create in addition to symbolism, simple, organic and minimalistic designs and complex patterns.

Inspiration to become an artist

I’m fortunate to have several creative types in my family who inspired and encouraged me to explore my artistic side and my Mom, Diana Mullane, was no exception. She was an incredibly talented artist capable of creating beautiful artwork through multiple mediums although painting with water colors became her preference. The example she set for me in life was simple and one I’m grateful for: be yourself and do what makes you happy. She was my inspiration to become an artist.

Sadly, Diana developed Alzheimer’s disease (like her Mom before her) and slowly stopped creating artwork as her health declined. She passed away in January 2021 at the age of 74, which brings us to…

The Mission

The National Institute on Aging describes Alzheimer’s disease as “an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks”. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates there are more than 5 million Americans living with the disease today and that number is growing; 1 in 3 seniors now dies with Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia and it’s become the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S., taking more lives than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

Watching Alzheimer’s disease slowly take a loved one is devastating and unfortunately, these statistics mean there are many more of you out there experiencing that devastation. My heart goes out to your loved ones going through a decline and all of you who are doing your best to take care of them.

Flow State Art Studio’s mission is to help create a world without Alzheimer’s so when you purchase artwork from The Studio, 10% of the profits are donated to help find a cure.

This isn’t just art; this is art with a purpose. This is art for Alzheimer’s.
